Job 26:5 “ Dead things are formed under the waters and the inhabitants thereof”. ‘Inhabitants’ is the Hebrew word ‘shaken’, which means resident or fellow-citizens. The implication here is that the people of earth were destroyed by water that covered the entire earth. Immediately you think of the flood of Noah’s day. A great flood destroyed the citizens of earth. It does not mention that any person has survived. Notice, there is no mention of any animal life being destroyed in the flood. Only the people are mentioned as being killed by the flood. Job 26:6 “ Hell is naked before Him [God] and destruction hath no covering”. ‘Naked’ is the Hebrew word ‘para’ which means exposed. ‘Destruction’ is the Hebrew word ‘dakka’ which means destroyed, crushed, or contrite. Hell is in the open at this time. It was not in the lower parts of the earth. It is totally exposed and in plain view of all of creation. The contrite or destroyed people in Hell had no covering and were exposed for all to see. Can you imagine the fear that would engulf the heavenly host to observe those dwelling in hell, after God’s wrath was poured out upon the inhabitants of earth? The heavenly host could see the souls of all mankind as a warning to all of creation of what can happen when the laws, precepts, and rules of God are broken. It does not pay to transgress the Creator! When the exposed hell was placed into the bowels of the earth is not known. Job 26:7 “He stretcheth out the north over the empty place and hangeth the earth upon nothing”. ‘Stretcheth’ is the Hebrew word ‘paras’, which means to expand or spread abroad. ‘North’ is the Hebrew word ‘tsuphon’ which means dark and unknown. ‘Empty’ is the Hebrew word ‘tohuw’ which means without form, wilderness, or nothing. This verse is saying, “God spread abroad the unknown darkness into the nothingness without form and suspended the earth upon nothing whatsoever”. The implication here is that in the beginning, earth was next to heaven or even part of heaven. The people of earth transgressed God in some way that made Him very angry. God flooded the earth killing the inhabitants, placed them in an exposed Hell; expanded the void around heaven; and placed earth in this void far from heaven. This void is what we call space. The earth was cast into utter darkness. This happened after the destruction of the people of earth. Did this happen during Noah’s day? No, if it had happened in Noah’s day then he and his family, could not have survived. This is a different flood than that of Noah’s day! These people are the first species of mankind that inhabited the planet earth!
